The most popular types of sports betting

The betting organizers try to create the best possible conditions for players to play, and the attractive offer is to encourage them to bet on matches.

An important aspect of the bookmaker's offer is its diversity - and it is not just about a large number of sports in which we can bet on matches at a given bookmaker.

The attractiveness of the offer is also evidenced by the number of available types of bets, thanks to which one match can be selected in many different ways.

There are many possibilities in this regard: apart from the classic bet, consisting in guessing which team will win the match, you can also bet on the exact result - after the whole match or its specific part, the number of specific events (e.g. corners or red or yellow cards) or who and when will score goals during the match.

However, not all available  types of bookmaker bets  are equally popular, which is why we have analyzed the most popular ones especially for you. We invite you to read!

The most popular bookmaker is undoubtedly the  1X2, which is a 3-way bet, in which we have a choice of three ways to settle the match . 1 is the home win (e.g. 1-0, 2: 1, 3-0), X - draw (0-0, 1: 1, 2: 2 etc.), and 2 is the away team's win (0: 1, 1 : 3, 2: 4). In some bookmakers you can find a system where the draw is marked as 0 (this is the case, for example, in Fortuna).

1X2 bets are most common when it comes to soccer. They are also available in basketball, the increasingly popular ice hockey and handball matches, but it is football that gives the most opportunities to predict the results of matches in a three-way bet. An example of using the 1X2 bet can be practically every mighty football match - for example, let's analyze it for the Champions League match between FC Barcelona and Paris Saint Germain.

The final result of the game is 2: 1 for Barcelona. To win the result bet for this match, we would have to bet on 1. If we played on X or 2 - we lose and lose the money. This means that in a 1X2 bet, we have 33% to hit: we win one out of three possible situations.

There are also disciplines in which matches cannot end in a draw. They include, among others volleyball, tennis, snooker (a variety of billiards) or badminton. In this case, the player will be able to place a 2-way bet, the so-called 12 - the victory of a team (or player) or a victory of a team (or player) B .

Such a bet is theoretically easier to predict because we only have two options, which means that our chances of winning - compared to the classic three-way bet on the result - increase from 33% to 50%. For example, we will take the match against Plus League of Men: ZAKSA Kędzierzyn Koźle - Jastrzębski Węgiel. The game ended with ZAKSA's victory after the 3-2 tie-break. For the coupon to be won, you should bet on 1. If you bet on 2, you lose the coupon.

This bet is based on how many hits will be scored in a given match . In the case of football, handball or ice hockey, we bet on goals. In basketball or volleyball - for points. In turn, in tennis, we can also bet on games. Recently, players are making this type of bets more and more. The most popular bet in soccer matches is 2.5 under / over. Importantly, this bet is based on the basic game time of 90 minutes (overtime and penalties are not counted).

  • Under 2.5  - means  under 2.5 goals in the match . We will only win if the sum of goals in the game is less than or equal to 2. Examples of results: 0: 0, 1: 1, 1: 0, 2: 0, 0: 1, 0: 2.
  • Over 2.5  - means  over 2.5 goals in the match . Our coupon will be won if more than 2 goals are scored in the match. Sample results: 3: 0, 2: 1, 2: 2, 1: 4.

Of course, the offer of all bookmakers also includes bets on the number of goals below or above: 0.5; 1.5; 3.5 etc. The odds for a given event are set individually by bookmakers. Most often they are suggested by the history of matches between the two teams, as well as their current shooting form. A player who decides to bet on this type should also read the statistics of the teams he wants to bet on.

Ice Hockey Matches

In this discipline, bookmakers usually start with the number of goals of 5.5. Under 5.5 means players must score less than 5 or equal 5 goals. (3: 1, 5: 0, 2: 1) . Similarly - over 5.5 means a win only if the match ends with a result greater than 5 goals scored. (2: 3, 4: 3, 3: 7).

Basketball games

In basketball, it is probably the most difficult to predict the correct number of points in a match. Here the specific bets vary greatly, and it all depends on the teams playing against each other as well as the league. The NBA usually scores high scores, such as 112: 103.In Europe, teams score far fewer points: 100 points scored by one of the teams is a rarity. For example, let's take the number of points below 168.5 per Euroleague game CSKA Moscow - Panathinaikos Athens. The game ends with a score of 87:82 for the hosts. This bet is a loser, as the sum of the total points for the game is 169. Also note that this bet is only for regular time. If the match ended in a draw and extra time would be needed to resolve, the number of points scored in the normal game (48 minutes in the NBA, 40 minutes in the Euroleague) counts.

Tennis matches

In tennis, we can bet on the number of games in the set or in the entire match . For example, we will use the match between Roger Federer and Kevin Anderson. Suppose we bet 18.5 games over (over) in a match. The duel ended with the result 6: 4, 6: 4. The sum of the games in this match was 20, therefore our bet would be won. In tennis, it is worth making such bets (on over) - the chance of winning is much higher than in the case of, for example, basketball.

There are better and weaker teams in all sports. To bridge the gap between them, bookmakers offer the so-called handicap bet . It consists of adding or subtracting goals or points from the final score of one of the teams playing against each other. This equalizes the chances in a specific match - the advantage of the strong favorite or the loss of the weaker team is thus reduced. Such a procedure obviously changes the basic odds per match (1X2).

Offering handicap bets by bookmakers is a  method of encouraging players to bet on the weaker team in a given match : by placing a handicap bet, you eliminate a significant advantage of one of the teams, which restores emotions to the game, the result of which is apparently known in advance. The option of such a bet is available in many sports, but it is the most extensive in football.

For example, let's analyze the game between  Manchester City and West Bromwich Albion. Odds for the match are as follows: 1- 1.15, X- 9.00, 2-19.50. The bookmaker sees the clear favorite of the match naturally in The Citizens. However, the exchange rate of 1.15 set for Manchester is not very attractive for players: due to the 12% tax on games, a bet with this rate is on the verge of profitability, because by betting PLN 10 we can only win PLN 10.12. On the other hand, betting on a weaker team may theoretically ensure a higher win (at this rate, each PLN 10 invested may result in a win of PLN 171.6 after deducting the tax on games), but the victory of West Bromwich Albion - and therefore our win - are very unlikely. The same applies to a tie. So, in the case at hand, neither option pays off, which may negatively affect players' interest in predicting a match.

To encourage players to bet on this match, as well as close the gap between the two teams, beech will offer  a handicap bet of eg -0.5; -1; -1.5; -2 etc for Manchester City. This means that City will be deducted from the final score: Half a goal, a goal, a goal and a half, two, etc. Let's assume the player has bet on a handicap of -1 and City win. The rate will then increase to around 1.45, which means that by betting PLN 10 you will be able to win as much as PLN 12.76. If Manchester wins by two or more goals the bet is won (e.g. 2-0, 4-1). From the hosts' final goal score, 1 should be subtracted. If the match ended with a result, eg 2: 1 for City, the bet is lost, because after the deduction of the goal, the final score will be 1: 1 - in this case it should have been a draw. Bookmakers can also offer positive handicaps, which in this case add goals for the weaker team - West Bromwich, to the final result.

However, the  offer for handicap matches at bookmakers is  not limited to football. In basketball or volleyball matches, you can include  handicaps on points . This will mean that a certain number of points (-4.5; - 7.5; -10.5) will be deducted from the final score of a match for one team, e.g. against the NBA. For example, if a player bets team A (-4.5), the match must be won by that team by a minimum of 5 points for the ticket to be won. Any other result will cause the ticket to be lost.

The no-tie type is similar to the 2-way bet. The player bets on the victory of one or the other team in the match. The odds for such bets are lower than for a bet with three choices. In the event of a tie (football or ice hockey), the bet is not lost. The odds are changed to 1.00 and the bookmaker will refund the stake.  The no-draw bet is an alternative to the traditional 1X2 bet because we have greater security: we only lose money when the second team is the winner.

For example, let's discuss Chelsea vs Liverpool. We bet on 1, which is The Blues. The final result is 2: 2 - the beech gives us the whole bet and  we lose nothing, while in the case of the classic 1X2 bet it would be a lost bet . If the game had ended 2: 3, and therefore Liverpool won, the bet would have been lost. In turn, Chelsea's win is also a win for us. To sum up, by placing a bet without a draw, the player has to take into account lower bookmaker odds, but the risk is also lower, because he loses money only in one case out of three.

Such a bet is offered primarily in football, ice hockey, volleyball and tennis matches. It is usually characterized by high odds and is difficult to predict. It consists in indicating a specific result in the match, e.g. betting on 2: 1 for Barcelona in a match with Real Madrid must come to this result. Otherwise, the coupon is lost and the player loses their entire contribution. So if Barcelona actually wins, but with a score of 3: 1, for example, the bet is lost, while in the case of the classic 1X2 bet, it would be won.

It is also possible to place a  bet on the correct score after the first half of the match . In the case of football or hockey, predicting the exact result is very difficult - there are many choices. But when it comes to volleyball or tennis, it is much easier. In these disciplines, the player knows what results the matches can end with. In volleyball, the match may end 3-0, 3: 1, 3: 2, and in tennis 2: 0 or 2: 1 and 3: 0, 3: 1, 3: 2 in men's Grand Slam tournaments (US Open, Wimbledon, Australian Open).
